Movie: The Hounted House Project

Movie review: The Hounted House Project (Pyega)
Cheol-ha Lee - South Korea, 2010
Horror, 84min.

Over the past 42 years, six people have gone missing, eight people have died "accidently" and eleven cases of murder have occurred in a deserted house.
3 members of an abandoned house exploring club and 3 staff members of a broadcasting company go into the deserted house.
All of them disappear.

It`s like the hand-held camera filming technique are used for all recent horror movies.
It all started with the `Blair witch project movie` that used one of the first time the hand-held camera filming technique.
Many high budget and low budget movies usses this technique.

This kind of techique wants you to belief that the movie really happend. Like it was all real footage of what is happend.

However many movies fales in this.
But other ones are so well made you just can`t know if it was real or not. And this makes the movie scary.

There are many terrible made, but somethime there is a true masterpiece between all the others.

The movie `Pyega` is not well known, but many reviews gives the movie a very low score.

However I disagree.
Yes the movie start very slow and boring and you will see most of the time nothing.

But what makes a hand-held film scary?... realisme.

The focus is not on the action or "ghosts" but how the people react and think.
You will see the movie trough the eye`s of the camera man, but you also will experience what he
experience.

The movie starts slow and boring but the movie climb to a climax!
With some unforgettable scenes!

Movie: Asylum Blackout

Movie review: Asylum Blackout (The Incident)
Alexandre Courtès - USA, 2011
Horror, 85min.

Rock musicians George, Max and Ricky work in the kitchen at the local asylum to make ends meet - the pay is good and they're at minimal risk, having no direct contact with the inmates. One night, just before dinner time, a storm shuts down the security system and the doors to all the cells open, letting the lunatics loose.

Getting stuck in an elevator is bad.
Getting stuck at your work is even worse.
Getting stuck in an asylum full with lunatics on the loose... start praying!

You will meet three rock musicians that works as cooks in an asylum.
They do not have the dream job but they are as save as it gets.
In a high security building all doors are electronic secured.
Security guards patrolling the place.

But on a stormy night the power turns out and the nightmare begins.

The security guards have control on the situation.
The inmates are drugged and calm.

But they are lunatics... and some have not taken there meds...

The security guards can not handle the situation alone.
The inexperience cooks have to help the guards to lock the inmates.

It is a matter of time, when the lunatics are loosing there calm...

A very original story and a very convincing cast. No super hero`s, only some real people that are handeling a situation they weren`t prepared for.
The movie has some amazing rock music, that plays a roll in the life of the cooks.
It also brings an unique horror.
A claustrophobic feeling and the unpredictable inmates will make you shiver the entire movie.

Movie: Tomie: Anrimiteddo

Movie review: Tomie: Anrimiteddo
Noboru Iguchi - Japan, 2011
Horror, 85 min.

Tsukiko, who belongs to a photography club at high school, always feels inferior to her elder sister, Tomie. Tomie is breathtakingly beautiful and popular among the male students, including Toshio, whom Tsukiko is secretly in love with.
After one year of the accidentally death of Tomie, the life of her family will change forever.
When suddenly a girl knocks on the door.
The girl claims to be Tomie, back from the death.

One day an awful accident kills Tomie right in front of her younger sister.
Since then Tsukiko suffers from a nightmare night after night.
A year later Tsukiko and her parents are surrounding a birthday cake to celebrate dead Tomie s 18th birthday.

Suddenly they hear an eerie knock at the door.
Unbelievably, it is Tomie. She is back.
The father and mother blindly welcome Tomie in tears, but Tsukiko feels instinctive fear.
Tomie gradually reveals her true face, but only when she is with Tsukiko.
Now Tsukiko s nightmare becomes reality, and the terrifying days begin...

This is one of the many movies based on the manga series 'Tomie' of Junji Ito.

It is hard to describe this movie, because of the bizarre events that happens.
How further to the ending, how more bizarre it gets.

In the beginning we`ll see an unforgettable death scene with amazing effects and camera. And at the ending you will see things you never could have imagine.

Good camera, good acting. Special effect were sometime cheap C.G. but in overall freaky and disturbing enough.
The movie is slow and not really scary. It is more about the gore.
The movie kinda reminds me of 'Funky Forest'.
So if you like bizarre stuff in the Japanese way, you`ll like this movie!

Movie: Reincarnation

Movie review: Reincarnation (Rinne)
Takashi Shimizu - Japan, 2005
Horror, 95min.

In a film that merges stories from past and present, a young actress gets a role in a new film that is based on a series of horrific murders committed in the 1970s.
During pre-production she appears to experience the murders as though they are happening around her, resulting in the discovery of an 8mm camera that she consequently has developed, with terrifying consequences.
A supernatural whodunnit that's handled with real style.

The movie begins when a young actress gets a role in a movie which is a recreation of a horrific murder that happened a number of years earlier, where a father kills his wife and two children and then goes on a rampage killing a number of people in the hotel in which he is staying.
All of which he films home-movie style with an 8mm camera.

The actress begins to experience flashbacks to the murder scene as if she was really there and is haunted by a little girl with a scary little doll.

Before long there are others experiencing the murder-scene flashbacks and they start to investigate the cause in order to understand why it is happening to them and their role in the tragic incident.
All paths lead to the hotel where the horrific murders took place, and eventually the murderous father's motives and spiritual beliefs become clear.

Soon the lines between reality and the afterlife becomes blurred as the dead return to relive the murderous rampage with the new stars of the show in leading roles.
Towards the end it turns into a true Horror movie once the mystery is no longer a mystery.

Reincarnation is an atmospheric and creepy Japanese horror Movie, filled with twists and turns as the mystery unravels.

The storyline is solid, and very original. Aldo it does have a traditional J-horror feel, it will show you things you never saw before.
Well acted plus Camera and Editing is excellent. It is not a low budget movie or high Hollywood budget. But the quality is perfect.

A true must see for all J-horror fans!
